Stora Askö - Flatvarp
There is a bridge to Stora Askö and by car it is possible to go all the way out to the hamlet of Flatvarp. The lovely cliffs and an open horizon make it a popular place for excursions.
Väderskär
The fishing-village on Väderskär dates back to the 1600s and is known for its little chapel with its unique wall and ceiling paintings. There is fresh and smoked fish to be bought from the two professional fishermen on the island.
Stora Grindö
Boat houses and cottages huddle close together in the old fishing-village on Stora Grindö. One of them holds Laxboa, where one can buy fish or be served a meal from a superb archipelago byffé or just a cup of coffee. There is fishing of eel and cultivation of salmon. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the fishing vessel "Garpen" takes you from Flatvarp on to the culinary and cultural nature tour "Kustmål" to Städsholmen and Stora Grindö. Städsholmen
Furthest out in the archipelago is Städshomen, which is a former pilot station. The station was closed in the 1960s after nearly 350 years of activity, but the look-out tower still remains.
Gärdsholmen
This island lies in the bay of Syrsan to the north west of Loftahammar. The island has been inhabited for a very long time and recently finds where made that date back to the Stone Age. On Gärdsholmen there are cottages for rent and "custom-made" fishing tours are offered with boats including guides and fishing gear. There is professional fishing and smoking of fish being carried out on the island.
Rågö
Newly opened to the public but still under construction is Rågö Skärgårdsby (archipelago village). The objective is to make a visitor's centre for culture and nature of the archipelago. "Tjust Allmogebåtar" (Tjust small wooden work boats) maintains the cultural heritage of wooden boats. On the 29th of July there is an annual festivity, called Rågödagen. On Rågö there is a café which serves meals and there are hiking trails and a guest pier. There is accommodation in the charming homestead of Wilhelmsson, as Bed & Breakfast or by the week. Björkö
This lush island in the inner archipelago has recently been nominated Sweden's most beautiful island. Björkö is a nature reserve and has active farms with cows and horses. There is hunting- and fishing tourism, the are saunas to let and accommodation in cottages as part of the concept of "Living on a farm". For those who would like to experience what it was like to live in the 1800s there is the rebuilt cottage of Strömssvederna, with a wood stove and paraffin lamps. Hasselö and Sladö
There is a wooden bridge over the newly dug canal which connects the two islands that together make up the largest island of the archipelago. The landscape is varied with mixed forests of deciduous- and coniferous woods as well as bare rocks against the open horizon. The archipelago boats land by the shallow beach at Hasselö Sand, where there is a guest harbour, a country shop, bicycle rental and a café with a newly built pavilion. Accommodation is available at the island's pleasant youth hostel, which also arranges tours for sport fishing, with or without a guide. On the south side of Hasselö there is a newly opened eating house offering a lunch and an evening menu. Sladö is a nature reserve with a rich flora, good locations for bird-watching and bathing from the cliffs. On Sladö smoked fish may be purchased for the picnic basket or a meal may be had in one of the old boat houses. Wander or cycle around the islands on excellent trails and roads. There is a nine-kilometre-long car free road between Hasselö and Sladö. A less tiring alternative is booking a tractor or quad bike with carts for passengers. Idö
By the sea lane in to Västervik is Idö, which was a pilot station from the 1400s until the middle of the 1980s. From the pilot tower, which is still intact, there is a magnificent view. Västervik's Museum here portrays the former life of the pilots and life in the archipelago, displaying historical pictures and objects. In summer the island is a well-visited and idyllic with great cliffs for bathing and hikers' trails. On Idö there is a guest harbour and a café. Kayaks and rowing boats are for rent. At the very top of the island is a excellent restaurant with a splendid view over the archipelago and the fairway. There is regular archipelago traffic from Västervik.
